A little networking help, please

you can have both wireless and wired devices on the same network segment. It depends on what you want to achieve. You can, for example, have one wireless network bridged to LAN so they share the same IP, next have another Wireless network (separate) that your guest can use it and they do not have access to internal resources.

Once you have decided what you would like to do, share your Policy rules, Zone and Wireless network and we will help you.

It became quickly apparent that putting the wired and wireless devices on different subnets created more problems than it potentially solved, so I moved everything back under the IP subnet range of 192.168.1.1 through 192.168.1.251. My XG box has been assigned 192.168.1.1 on port 1. 192.168.1.2 has been assigned to the AP. Right now I have nothing on port 3, I moved everything back to port 1. I guess what I need to figure out is how to get both ports 1 and 3 on the XG box on the same subnet..  That question has probably been asked and answered on the forum before, so I'll search around. Thanks.

I think that you are not using Sophos AP. If this is the case, create a bridge and put both nics that belong to the same network segment.

You are correct in that I'm not using a Sophos AP. I am using this EnGenius ECB1750 AP. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833168138

So pardon my ignorance, but how do I set up a bridge for the two nics. I got the impression I would have to have the Sophos box in bridge mode, and I need to use it as a gateway.

to create a bridge go to System> Network> Interfaces and select Add new bridge as show:

As members add the ports where wired and wireless devices are connected. For both, select the same zone and give to a bridge an IP.

That's all. For example if you create a bridge and choose the zone "LAN" what you have to do is to create a Lan to WAN policy rule allowing the needed traffic.

Strange that there is not a Sophos KB on "How to create a Bridge".

I don't have time to try it now, but I will give it a try later and report back. Thanks!
