STAS Service will not install.

When installing STAS on 2008R2, I get a 1057 error stating the service cannot be installed.  The status code indicates that it is an issue with the user, but I have tried two separate users, both members of the admin group.  Not sure where to go next.

Any thoughts?

  • Hi Scott,

Do both users you've tried have "Log on as a Service Permissions"?

Have you tried the Domain Administrator?

  • That was it.  I appreciate you guys.

  • Hi Scott,

    Glad to have helped!

    1. After install STAS, the following error may be encountered:

This error message indicates that the Username and Password entered at the time of  installation while running the wizard are wrong.

    Failed Message

Failed: Can not start service.: STAS

Fatal Error: The service did not start due to a logon failure

In fact this message is displayed due to the non-completion of the user and password in the creation of the service in Windows Server.

    1. Go to Start -> Run

Execute “services.msc” to modify the username and password of service.

Click on OK and a screen will appear with “Sophos Transparent Authentication Service”.

    1. Right Click Cyberoam Transparent Authentication Service and select the properties of Sophos Transparent Authentication Service. Click on the ‘Log On’ tab to change or rewrite the credentials.

Enter the correct username and password and then restart the STAS services.

    1. Open STAS exe that you installed. Under General tab, click on Start button to run the service.
