Fantastic little nano PC for XG

Just a FYI, I am running XG on one of these, it works perfectly, ideal for the home or small office, I'm so impressed with it I might buy some more! :-)

  • Canyou tell me how you loaded Sophos XG onto the Qotom? I picked up a Qotom, and loaded the Sophos XG installer onto a USB.  But the CPU does not seem to be willing to boot from the USB, no matter how often i direct it to do so from the BIOS screen.  I'm stumped!

    Thanks in advance,

    Eric

  • Hey Eric

I run XG on the Qotom (this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GZUQNAO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and I've used the process below to get this going. And for whoever previously asked, it works great and I can use all 4 NIC ports, the NIC's are also Intel based not RealTek so no odd driver issues. CPU is about 12%, ram usage is about 44%..I have the quad core, 8gb unit.

To get this to boot, you need to create a bootable USB...this is different from just writing a ISO to the USB sick and the easiest way is to use a quick tool. You also need to make sure you download the correct installer...do not download the "Hardware installer" from Sophos download site, what you need is the Software installer for Intel hardware. This will give you a .iso file about 356mb. This is the ISO you will need to create a bootable USB drive. I'll give you instructions on how to do this on windows, you can also do it on Mac but Im going to assume you have windows.

    - Download Rufus portable here: https://rufus.akeo.ie/ (windows only)

    - Inset a USB stick into your windows computer

    - in Rufus, select your Sophos ISO image, dont worry about any of the other options...hit start. Rufus will prompt you to write the USB in which format...select "DD" (this was not the default option). Let the image write to the USB it should take less then 5min.

    - insert the usb stick in the Qotom PC (doesnt matter which port) and hit the power button, by default the PC will boot from the bootable USB stick and start the Sophos installer.

If the PC does not boot from the USB stick, you will need to go into the Qotom's bios and change the boot order. To get into the bios, hit <delete> key when you see the American Megatrends bios screen.

    Hope this helps.
