Windows PPTP client refuses to connect with encryption enabled :-(

Hello, I am struggling to get my Windows 8.1 PC to connect via PPTP to my Sophos XG firewall.

I see an error in the logs saying this: "mppe required but peer negotiation failed"

I googled it and found this article: http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/howto-diagnosis.phtml#mppe_rbpnf

So I have set my PPTP client to "maximum strength encryption" but it still fails (note I can see successful authentication in the log, it's LCP that's failing).

If I set the client to "no encryption allowed" it works fine, but I obviously don't want to connect without "protection".

I know we should't really be using PPTP in this day and age but I'd still like to get to the bottom of this.

I can't find any encryption settings in XG for the PPTP server, maybe there's a mismatch, although that sourceforge link kinda indicates a bug in the PPTP server?

Anyone got any idea?

Cheers,

Paul
