Non system disk following install on MicroServer Gen8

Sophos XG install on MicroServer Gen8 G1610T

Hi - Installing from a USB to a new drive, with no errors reported during installation, restarting the server reports non-system disk.

HP RAID array not enabled.

Has anyone successfully installed on a Microserver G8? I would appreciate any ideas please.

Thanks

  • I'm experiencing the same issue on brand new HP ProLiant Gen8 server.

It is confirmed that the installation is selecting the right hdd.
No error messages during the installation.
    Removes USB and reboots.
Gets error message for Non-System disk.

I thought it just might be that the installation didn't install GRUB so I've bootet an Linux live USB to check the disk after installation.
It looks like the installation doesn't touches the disk at all.
There are no partitions etc on the disk, no disk space used.

Tried several images. Tried all settings in BIOS with AHCI. Disabled HP ILO. No success.

Started installation UTM Firewall Home, and that one creates partitions correctly.

It got to be something with the XG Firewall installation, since other OS (Linux) installs fine on the Gen8.

I'm setting up UTM Firewall Home while waiting for the upgrade kits to be available in mid 2016. Hope somebody at Sophos sees this post, so they can build support for HP Gen8 server.

  • I have the same issue on an Acer Aspire model x1935.

I've successfully installed  SW-SFOS_15.01.0_MR-1.1-407.  Upon boot/restart, I get "No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed".  If I press F12 while restarting the unit, I can select the drive to boot from and the firewall starts up and operates fine. No matter what I do in the BIOS settings this behaviour does not change.

    Weird.
