I think I want to cry

What is this? What has happened to such a great product?

Setup was horrible. It used to be so simple, setup basic networking during install. Once I finally got in after having to change my network around, I still haven't figured out how to setup a simple nat.

I work for a tech company that I used to throw your name out in our meetings all the time on how we should be doing things.

I thought esets new version was a pain.

  • This is my first foray into Sophos, though others across the years have recommended them.  As someone in the IT sector (and in management) I can't say I'd be recommending a company who releases software this buggy.  They need to get some service releases out pronto and figure out where all there testers are (I'd say here) and use them for everyone's benefit.

If I can fix the requirement to reboot it every day, I might stick around long enough to wait for one of those patches....  Fat chance?

It's a problem right from the VERY FIRST STEP.  i.e. no pppoe firewall licence activation.  Absolutely appalling.

  • Quentin,

XG is at the first version and it needs to be improved a lot (we knew that!). Also the activation process will be improved Also into next release. For the bugs you have, contact the Support to find out if it they have a workaround or when the fix will be available.

A new MR should come soon with other bug fixes and This summer v16 will come with a lot of new features and a lot of fixes, so be patient!

  • I think I'll just disable most of the application protection stuff and use it like a normal packet filter with basic protection.  That way it won't be worse than other firewalls (should perform, but won't be better either), but at least I can wait for the patches.  DoS settings cause a few issues, that's something I wasn't expecting.

A really good idea would be for someone to publish some known good configuration examples.  I haven't found anything like that yet.

Great that someone is in here poking around and providing answers.  Thanks for your reply!
