DSL Modem Configuration Options

Can anyone tell me what the best way to configure a DSL modem (mine is ATT) and an XG-105 hardware.  I have 3 options for the modem itself.

  1. PPP on the DSL modem and configure XG as DHCP?
  2. PPP on computer > XG configured with username and password.
  3. Bridge Mode > "as I understand this"  XG acts as the DSL modem.

Whats the best way?  I was having dropped internet connections when I used option 2.  It's now configure as option 1.  I'm still having dropped internet, but not nearly as bad.  Should I change the modem to Bridge Mode?

  • In bridge mode the XG does the authentication, the modem is still the modem, the bridge mode does is pass the authentication to a more secure and managed device. In bridge mode you don't end up with a double nat situation and you can trace configuration faults. Options 2 and 3 are the same.
