please try https://172.16.16.16:4444/ if you are getting a 127 address then you have corrupt installation and need to start all over with a fresh download of the iso.

You can't actually do that you must use the port 2 as the internet connection which you configure in the cli.

Once I got the 172.something ip address, the internet connection seems to go off with the yellow exclamation mark on notifiy area. When the management pc is not getting the 172.16 ip range from the esxi , the browser cant get into the console login page on https://172.16.16.16:4444 with username,password : admin, admin. The basic setup on the activation screen would take me to the port B of the device that you're talking about but it is useless because the internet connection has gone off by then.
