Hardware requirements/Compatibility

Are the hardware requirements the same for XG firewall as for UTM 9?  I have an intel machine that had been running UTM 9.3 with no problems.  However, when I install XG firewall from the iso, the system will not start.  The installation completes with no errors but after removing the install disk and rebooting, it "hangs" with a black screen and blinking cursor.  It looks like a hardware issue.

  • I had a similar problem installing XG firewall on a 32-bit Intel box. After installing the XG software, removing the install cd, and rebooting, it gives an error saying

"This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU"

From what I can tell though, there is no .iso installation file available for a 32-bit CPU. None of the documentation suggests that a 64-bit server is needed for this software.
  • By default you would assume 64 bit because maximum memory a home user will be able to use is 6gb. 32 bit cannot access more than about 3.8gb of ram.

    Ian,

  • My system has an Intel dual core 64 bit processor. The UTM9 software installed and ran with no problem so I'm not sure what could be causing this. I don't gat an error... It just doesn't boot up.
  • Same here... I get the infamous "No bootable partition", tried on several PCs and same result. Be nice to know why..
