Error Installing Firmware

Question

I have a PC that I've been running UTM 9 on for a couple of years. The hard drive crashed so I decided I would give XG a run. The install gets to 80% and then says "ERROR: Unable to install firmware". Is there any way to determine what is causing it to fail?

It worked after either : 
 - Giving 2G of RAM 
 - Reboot the failed install on CD and install again (but didn't work if you remove the previous disk). i.e. "install over failed install"
