SG230 fan replacement with Noctua

Hi,

I'm running a SG230 with Sophos Firewall OS for a home setup and I am very pleased with the functionality.

Unfortunately I do not have a lot of space at home and am running this machine in a switch rack located near my desktop PC.

I think it's pretty loud and therefor I'm looking to replace the fan(s?) with Noctua fans. I was wondering if anyone knows if the Noctua NF-A4x20-FLX, 40mm would work for this?

This fan seems to be popular with people who try to silence switches, firewalls, etc.

I couldn't find how many fans the SG230 has, as far as I can see online it's one, but I could be wrong. Can anyone tell me if this fan swap would work and how many I need? I know I could open up the device to find this out, but I prefer to wait with that till I have ordered the right fans for this.

Thanks in advance.

  • looks like 3 classic Fans with Molex pin. Plus at least one in the PSU.

you can find that image on google.

  • Thanks a lot. Google didn’t show me the image, probably because it’s from a German website.

Either way I would not have been sure if it was the right version. So thanks for that confirmation.

Now all that it left is to figure out if these fans (including the PSU one) can be replaced with a Noctua fan, or if I’m better off finding a desktop model Sophos.
