My WAN has been down for hours but the DDNS logs show the updates are successful. And the firewall logs show success for DNS lookups.
How can that be?

Can you share the screenshot of the DDNS configured ?
Can you also share the ddc.log and dgd.log during the same time when WAN was down but DDNS got updated.
To check the log file use the doc for the reference.
