Block YouTube Shorts and/or Instagram Reels

Maybe this is a tricky one.

I want to block all TikTok like content on my network.

Block TikTok is easier because TikTok only offers TikTok like content (short videos algorithm suggested and etc)

But YouTube and Instagram it's different.

I don't want to full block YouTube because there's many bad things on YouTube but it has as well lots of good content.

Same for Instagram, in general can be very bad but if you use it to interact only with your family and friends it is a good tool to share good moments with people you love.

So that's why I want to block only Reels on Instagram and Shorts on Instagram.

Does anyone knows how to do that? If it's even possible?

Thanks.

  • Hello  ,

Thank you for reaching out to the community, Goto PROTECT > Web > Categories > Add [Create a Custom Category and the following two keywords]
    1.) shorts
    2.) reel

For YouTube - urls includes the word shorts and for Instagram "reel' word is included in the urls
Add this to the web Policy

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Hello  , sorry abou the delayed answer.

I dont know what i did wrong but that did not work for me.

Do i need SSL Inspection enabled?

Because if i do maybe that will be a problem since youtube dont love SSL inspection.

    Can you help me please?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

you will need either web proxy or SSL/TLS rule. You will need to install the XG CA on the devices. You need to have the policy selected within the rule for it to work. Also you need to ensure there are no other policies that will allow the block policy to be avoided.
