XG home lic adding a 2nd Wan Line

Hi,

I have a XG home lic appliance setup in a virtual machine, and right now I have one nic for one Wan line. I want to add a new NIC so I can have a 2nd Wan line. I have two ISP lines coming in, one from AT&T, other one from Verizon.

I found out adding a new NIC can not be done, I basically have to start from the start meaning has to build a new machine for it, which I do not want to do. I end up create a bonded (active-backup) interface with two Wan lines, then connected to XG wan port. Here is my question:

1. when I disconnect Wan1 line, and bond interface switched to Wan2, but XG does not pick up a new ip from my 2nd internet provider (I guess XG need to release old ip and request a new whenever the bonded interface is changing the line).

Which to get some good sugguestion how should I proceed here. thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

you should be able to perform a fresh installation with the extra NIC as part of the configuration then perform a restore, but the NIC order will change.

  • thanks for your quick reply, my question:

    1. restore will put back my lic information, right?

    2. right now, I have 2nd VM XG and is on HA with this first VM, wondering If I restore my first VM, I guess I need to redo HA my 2nd VM XG too?

    thanks.

  • The licence is not affected by a restore that is installed at build time.

  • just a thought, I have 2 VMs and they are in HA, is anyway to adjust first VM to switch to 2nd VM (under HA) whenever Wan line down in first VM? if we can do that, then I will put Wan 1 on first VM, and 2nd Wan on 2nd VM (which is in HA), that will do the same thing for me I think.
