MAC Filtering -Sophos XGS

Hello All,

We have a requirement to use MAC filtering for few clients which are connected to Sophos XGS via a core switch. The objective is if traffic comes from a specific MAC address needs filtering applied. Is that possible as i have seen below doc saying

"MAC-based internet filtering only works when the network nodes are directly connected to the Sophos Firewall. Turn on User-MAC binding in network scenarios where the nodes are connected via a firewall, router, or a layer three (3) switch. For more information,"

thanks

  • Hello Manu,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

If the Sophos Firewall can't see the original MAC address, which usually gets stripped by a layer 3 switch or router before the Sophos Firewall, then the MAC Filtering won't work, as the Firewall will always see the same MAC address.
