XG Firewall - How to create static IP addresses

I'm in the proces of setting up a Sophos XG on an Intel platform and step by step overcoming the differences I encounter from other FW products I have used. I mainly have experience with Untangle and Ubiquiti products.

The plan was to onboard all of my clients in one go using DHCP and then single out the ones that need a static IP address. Have setup so I have a DHCP pool from x.x.x.100 and x.x.x.200 - the rest is to be used for clients that I'd like to have assigned a reserved IP based on MAC address. All of my clients (apart from a few) are setup to use DHCP for assignment, but be given the same IP address so I know "who" they are.

I'd like to keep the existing IP mapping to make the migration as easy as possible in terms of not having to change scripts, automations etc. that rely on IP addresses.

So, to sum up: I would have expected that I could onboard all by letting DHCP run its course and then pull up the list of clients and edit the IP address for each (to one outside the DHCP pool of course) so everything matches.

But I can't seem to find an option for this in the GUI?

Is it not there? Will I need to create a manual entry for each - meaning collating all MAC addresses and punch them in one by one?

Thanks in advance for any insight!

  • Hi and welcome to the XG world,

As you pointed out there is no tool to assist in creating static assignments. You can copy and paste the MAC address from the DHCP assigned list which works for the IP4 addresses, the IPv6 display will depend on your browser, the MAC safari does not work well with the XG gui..
