Sophos Connect constantly re-authenticating when machine sleeps

I have a RADIUS/NPS/Azure AD setup for Sophos Connect VPN.  Everything works well for the most part.

The only issue I'm having is when you are connected to the VPN and you put your laptop to sleep, Sophos Connect continually tries to re-authenticate which is causing constant MFA prompts in Microsoft Authenticator.  Like hundreds.  I'm trying to figure out why Sophos Connect is continually trying to authenticate when the laptop goes to sleep.

  • it is probably because the NIC periodically wakes up. We can see the same sometimes with Heartbeat from Intercept-X. While the computer sleeps, there are constant changes (multiple per minute) in the status. Probably Sophos is not to blame here - it just tries to reconnect when it sees the network connection changes.

You may try to disable energy saving on the NIC or select connected standby.
