Sophos XG can't resolve client hostname with DHCP

Hi all,

I'm new with Sophos XG and I apologise if the question is trivial.

I've created some VLANs and for each one there is a DHCP server. DHCP servers are configured to announce the Interface IP address as the DNS server but I can't resolve client hostnames in the same network. I would also resolve the local dns names through other VLANs.

These is an example on how I've configured the DHCP Server:

DNS service is enabled in every zones (Administration > Device Access).

The only way I found to resolve local names is to add it manually in the DNS host entry (Under Network > DNS) but frankly I would avoid to do it for every host.

Is there a way to resolve the clients hostname automatically in the same LAN and also between different LANs that is configured to "speak" each other?

Many thanks in advance

  • Sophos firewall  will not be able to resolve the hostnames of the machines with in the same network. There is no way it can collect that information, one possible way of doing is to add those hostnames to ip mapping in the DNS host entries on the firewall like above and should provide a possible work around
