Intel 15f3 network device support

Hi,

I have bought a micro-pc with Intel hardware,  to migrate my firewall in al older pc (2007) to it.

I have intall the  19.0 371 release, everything goes ok, until first boot. It has not detect any interface  and is on safe mode.

I boot a linux image to check the hardware and no errors appear.

The NIC's are Intel 15f3. I have checked in a list of linux's support devices and is supported in almost distributions.

Any one know's how to solve this?

 Any help will be appreciate.

  • Hi,

from my investigation the 15f3 is a member of the I225 family of NICs which are not currently supported by XG, they are considered home PC not business grade NICs.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your support.

I don't understand why their have a home edition without home hardware support.

I'm not buy another equipment, to protec muy home is enoguh, Will move to pfsense.

    Regards.

  • Hi,

it is not a home edition. The software is the same software that is installed on the Sophos hardware or VMs. You licence determines whether it is a home user, a fully paid up corporate user or a limited function business user.

Sophos have chosen not to support NICs designated as PC type devices because they are not designed for the throughput a firewall would require.

You could instal VM which would overcome the limitation of the NIC support. The XG only sees the driver offered by the VM, not the underlying hardware.

I'd say kernel used in XG is just so old that it does not have support (4.20 for I225). I doubt Sophos strips out NIC driver modules from the kernel.

Too bad since I225 is used on several NUC platforms and is a great 2.5G NIC.
