DHCP lease time

Hi,

Just want to ask how the dhcp lease time work. Does the leased start time should be the same when the device got disconnected? or will the leased start time will changed when the device got connected again?

Because as for monitoring the case is that when the device got connected again after disconnecting, the leased start time is changed.

Kindly refer to the screenshot below.

The first screenshot is the first time the device got connected.

The second is when the device got connected after disconnecting.

  • Hello ,

Thank you for reaching out to the community,
Default lease time: Time for IP address lease (in minutes) to clients.
Max lease time: Maximum lease time (in minutes). The client must send a new request to the DHCP server when the specified time expires.

If renewed and the IP assigned changes then the lease time will be updated !!
If the IP remains the same during renew then start time and end time does not change upon renewal of the IP address

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Hi,

Just to clarify. Are you saying that start time and end time should not change if the IP still remains? If that's the case. Why is the start time and end time is changing when the IP still remains? As you can see to my screenshot.

the IP of the device is 192.168.5.20 start time:10:15 end time:10:30

when we tried to disconnect then reconnect the device again as shown in the screenshot below

the IP of the device is still 192.168.5.20 but the start time changed to 10:24 and end time: 10:39

  • Well to test this theory I replicated in the labs and it turns out that upon executing the command: ipconfig /renew from CLI of windows

start time and end time does not change upon renewal of the IP address...

    Thanks & Regards,
