SG115rev2 GuestAP question

Hi, I have a SG115rev2 that has been running for a few years. Currently on SFOS 18.5.1 MR-1-Build326. There are 4 ports on my SG115 with port1 connected to my LAN switch and port2 connected to my WAN broadband modem. All works great.

I have a spare wifi router CISCO EA6700 and trying to use it as GuestAP. I connected the router to port4 and under Interface tried to assign it to Network Zone>WIFI. Under Zone>WIFI>Members I can see GuestAP and port4. Before I proceed I would like to know if I can connect a wifi router this way and utilise GuestAP functions.

    Hi,

    wifi zone only works for Sophos APs. The zone would be LAN.

     My answer is not 100% correct, you can call any network member of a zone, but the WIFI function are not part of the zone. In practice the wifi zone is just a name with no special functions.

    The APs in your case are just another network device.

    Hi Ian, thanks for clarifying. Can I place my Linksys router behind port4 as LAN and use the Linksys capabilities to control wireless devices connected to it? Understand now I cannot use Sophos's GuestAP capabilities with a non-Sophos AP.

    Ideally the IP assigned from the Linksys router and I also want to use the user control capabilities of the router. Is that doable?

    Hi,

    that will work, just make sure you use a LAN port on the router so that the wifi and the XG are all on the same network.

    Hi Ian, is it possible to I connect the aditional Linksys router into a LAN port on the SG115 instead of into the LAN posrt of the existing router on the network? I am hoping to assign a different subnet.
