XG Firewall Home Use Edition on XG 86w

Hello,


I'd like to install SFOS 19 (Home Edition) on a no longer used in production XG86W firewall.

Burning SW-19.0.0_GA-317.iso to a DVD and booting into it leaves me with
Sophos FIRMWARE INSTALLER

on the console.

Is this even possible? Version 19 WITH Home Edition ON a XG 86w.

I've read some articles here how you can let this happen on larger firewalls with HDMI Port and booting Linux. However the XG 86w only has an COM Connection and very basic information on the console.

  • The serial number seems to be stored in a special area. Even if reimaging a firewall with a new .iso file the serial is still the same as before. I have a bunch of firewalls in my company - usually updating across the path but sometimes it is faster to install from the iso.

    AFIK the license is reassigned to another serial number and not the other way round (you don't change the serial in order to use a license from another device). 

    We also had the case that a hardware needed to be replaced but I don't remember whether we received a replacement with the same serial or transferred the license. (I think we reasigned the license ...).

  • you need to completely wipe the disk outside of XF.
