XG Firewall Home Use Edition on XG 86w

19.0 GA requires a minimum of 4 GB RAM. So, you can't upgrade the following models to 19.0 GA:

• XG 85, XG 85w, XG 105, and XG 105w
• SG 105, SG 105w
  
  > Yours is XG86w so that is supported !! 
  > Hardware installers and Software installers are different - Difference hardware are fine tuned accordingly to use the hardware capability.

Vivek JagadThanks for your quick reply. As the Software installer led to the above error I downloaded and installed the hardware installer which worked. However now the serial number is different from the one I received for my home license. So I am stuck at another position - installed the new firmware but are not able to use my home license. Is there a way to resolve this?

I believe the work around you are referring too will only work on 210's and above.

Software Images will require 4 GB RAM as well. So you could potentially load a V17.5 Image but are stuck on this platform until EOL of the Hardware. 

You need to wipe the disk before doing this as well.

In that scenario, can you login to advance shell [ssh menu - press 5 for device management > press 3 for advance shell]
> type the command: *li_manage 1 
> Reboot the appliance and then use the home license serial number in the ssh menu ! 

*NOT SAFE FOR HARDWARE APPLIANCE !! 

Will this work on all Sophos hardware installations using the home version?

bit skeptical but again Sophos Customer Care can for sure in transferring the license or with the serial number !!  

what does "li_manage 1" do? I don't have a box to play with at the moment.

But a home user has a no access to Sophos Customer Care.

With commands execution, it will remove all the license and subscription. 
It is already removed in v19

So strictly not safe for hardware appliance !! 

The serial number seems to be stored in a special area. Even if reimaging a firewall with a new .iso file the serial is still the same as before. I have a bunch of firewalls in my company - usually updating across the path but sometimes it is faster to install from the iso.

AFIK the license is reassigned to another serial number and not the other way round (you don't change the serial in order to use a license from another device). 

We also had the case that a hardware needed to be replaced but I don't remember whether we received a replacement with the same serial or transferred the license. (I think we reasigned the license ...).

you need to completely wipe the disk outside of XF.
