Will my TP-Link mesh wifi work with my new XGS firewall?

Greetings everyone!

I run a few TP-Link Mesh wifi systems with my current UTM. It was an easy setup which required no firewall rules.

We are moving to a new XGS firewall this month.

Will my TP-Link wifi setup work fine with the new XGS firewall, or will XGS lock it down till I create a firewall and NAT rule?

Any input would be very much appreciated

  • Hi Sean Rome,

By default, your TP-link router will get internet access once you deploy Sophos XG firewall however you can configure a separate rule for TP link router with IP or MAC base if no L3 switch is connected between Sophos XG and TP-link wifi router.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Thank you for the quick reply. I do have an un-managed Cisco switch in-between the Wifi router and the firewall

  • Hi Sean Rome,

Okay you can setup ISP router ---->Sophos XG ----> un-managed Cisco switch--> TP Link router

  • The short answer for this is Yes with some configurations. TP-Link’s setup process is similar to most other modern mesh routers. You connect one of the stations (either one works) to your ISP’s modem or router with the included Ethernet cable, plug it into a wall outlet, then download the Deco app on an iOS or Android device. The app will walk you through creating an account (if you don’t have a TP-Link account already), finding the station, and setting up your Wi-Fi network.

    Regards,
