Mini PC - Sophos XG Firewall Home Edition

Hello.

I am looking for hardware for Sophos XG Firewall Home Edition.
Of course I want to use it in a home environment.

I am thinking of: PICO PC with Intel® Core i5-8265U (Link #1).
Or a cheaper version: PICO PC with Intel® Core i3-8145U (Link #2)

Do I need to buy the more expensive version for home use? - 3 PCs, 2 TVs and 5 mobile devices (laptops, phones, tablets).

My ISP: 750 Mbps - DL; 200 Mbps - UP

Or is there any other alternative?

I am from Europe - so I care about the possible shipping price.

Thank you for your help!

Greetings.

  • Hello Max,

there have been a lot of recommendations for this topic in the past. Just search the forum for this.

One observation is important: don't use "exotic" LAN chips, as these are not supported by SFOS.

    The basic recommendation is

    - 4 core CPU (real cores)

    - 6GB of RAM is the supported maximum (even if you install 8GB)

    - Intel-LAN, but Intel i219 or i225 series are not supported

    - 80-120gb of disk, M.2 SSD is fine

Personally, I can recommend minipc.de as source. I bought a mini-pc barebone and some additional hardware for my home firewall-system from there, which runs flawlessly since years. This was an overall good experience.

    Have fun!
