Unidentified Users in Guest Network

Hi all,

I just installed two XGS136 as gateway for our guest network. We use APs from Extreme and the authentication via PPSK codes, that are generated on a per user basis via the Extreme API (in the future). Currently we still use a guest known PSK. Yes thats not ideal and hence the change to PPSK in the future.

Now, if I look at the statistics, I only get unidentified users. Is there any way to show the hostname if available and not just the IP? Thats what Im known to with using OPNsense etc.

We're not going to integrate any database or LDAP service in the XGS, the guest network has to be seperated completely from the rest of the network.

  • Hi, in the reports I would like to see the hostname, not the IP. See the screenshot below. In the filter they only get recognized as "unidentified" Now if I want to identify a user, I have to go in the Extreme Cloud, search for the IP in the selected time/date and have to look for the hostname.

Now the best case would be that in the future, when we have PPSK up and running, users will have to enter their name in an MS Form that we built to get their authentication key. Is there any way to then get hat pulled in to Sophos from Extreme?

  • Hi,

the users are not known to the XG, so they will not be reported.

  • Yes, but is there any way to show at least the hostname? If I look at the DHCP table, the hostname is there. Or even better, an API that I can parse the extreme Cloud PPSK Users with?

  • The XG is very limited in that function, there is no relationship to DHCP identity and repotting.

The next question I cannot help you with, you could start a support case while waiting for details in the forum.
