Sophos Firewall trial indefinitely.

I have a scenario where the customer has a Sophos Firewall at headquarters and several pfSense at branch offices.

We're trying to configure high availability connectivity using a point-to-point link and an IPSEC tunnel, using OSPF, it's basically allowing traffic to be automatically routed through the IPSEC tunnel when the main point-to-point link goes down. But it's complicated, we're not making it work.

So I ask: Can I put Sophos Firewall trial indefinitely in place of pfSense in all other places, only with the VPN, Firewall and OSPF routing function?

Because if you use all locations with Sophos Firewall, this scenario will work.

  • Hi,

you will need to talk to a sophos partner to workout pros and cons with costs.

  • In fact we are partners here :) We just never put Sophos indefinite trial on clients.

We are having headaches with pfSense, worse than the customer wants us to run OSPF routing with point-to-point link and IPSEC VPN as a redundant way, it's just that it's complicated to guarantee the operation of an open source product, without any support .

So using the Sophos trial for this case would be to get rid of pfSense.

  • You can generate a 30 Day Trial. This can be extended to a certain amount of time, but not "indefinitely". Because for a reason you have to sell the product.

The Software/Hardware in base license on the other hand is a perpetual license. Means it runs forever and can do firewall / VPN. So you can sell a software license or hardware to the customer without any subscription one time to get this running.

  • And if after the trial expires, I keep the Software/Hardware in the base license, can I use dynamic routing with OSPF?

Because in those places where there are pfSense, we will not need the Bundle (IPS, AV, Web Filter, App Filter.....), but only firewall, VPN IPSEC and OSPF.

  • It is not a Trial. Base license is perpetual. This means one time license purchase and the customer owns this base license for ever. It covers those features yes.
