Sophos XG (XGS) to replace Symantec Email Gateway (Brightmail) any thoughts?

Hi,

We've a number of XG86s and a pair of UTM 330s, so we are quite familiar with Sophos kit.

We have an old and wheezing Symantec Email Gateway which sits between our on-premise exchange (we are midway through a hybrid o365 migration) and Mimecast, basically acting as a MTA or email relay.

I'd like to get rid of the Symantec Email Gateway and it looks like an XG or XGS will do the trick. I don't want to add this to our UTMs (which are doing a good job) or the existing XGs (as each performs unique tasks).

It operates like this:

Email received from address A (Mimecast inbound) for our domain is processed and then forwarded to address B (internal exchange)

Email received from address B (internal exchange) from our domain is processed and then forwarded to address C (Mimecast Outbound)

I've seen that there is an email feature in the XG86, but as it requires a license, I've not played with it.

I've a feeling that the XG86 (or XGS87) only operates as a transparent email filter and that I'd need a bigger box to use a MTA email relay feature.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks,

Steve
