Hardware Recommendation for Sophos Firewall Home OS with full features enabled

Hello everyone,

I am trying to replace my current firewall at home because I am beyond angry.

Is it true that the home firewall OS has essentially all features? SSL decryption, Application control, zero-day exploit protection?

It should pass the EICAR test without paying a subscription?

Is there a specific generation of CPU I should be looking at ? I will be buying a used small form factor computer and adding a 4 port ethernet expansion card on it.

How much power do I need to enable all the features?

I want something small and power efficient would appreciate some recommendations.

  • Hi,

the home licence will work on the XG after you either replace the disk or totally reformat it. I don't expect the current home version will work on the XGS because it had different hardware and if it does you would not have access to any of the new inbuilt features.

  • Hi,

    the recommendation is

1/. 4 core (real) CPU does not need to be an I series, xeon is fine

2/ 6gb of ram (minimum the home version will allow even if you install 8gb.

3/. real NICs, not i219 or i225 series and try to use Intel.

    4/. about 120gb of disk

That will be more than adequate for your needs.
