DNS times out when using Quad9 as provider

We are seeing a lot of timed out DNS requests when using Quad9 as DNS provider.

Timeout does not happen when we use Quad9 directly on windows/linux hosts but only when we use it trough Sophos XG FW.

Is the DNS query timeout set so aggressive on XG that the request fails? We have this issue on multiople locations and multiple firewalls. I can open ticket if it helps, just wanted to know if others are facing same problem.

Hi,

I expect that is caused by the response time of the DNS servers. I configured Quad9 as my DNS servers and then tested response times and found that the times were at a minimum 4-8 time longer than local servers.

Yes it can be slow at times and this probably cause DNS to timeout when request are passed trough Sophos XG. I would like to increase timeout on Sophos but not sure if this is possible.
