XG Firewall home edition on XG 106, hardware port assignment corrections

Hello,

I successfully installed XG Firewall Home Edition onto XG 106 rev.1 hardware, not without great difficulty. Everything is working, but the "hardware" port assignments do not match up with physical port numbers. It was easy enough to get them configured to match the LED indicators and named in the web configuration but I wonder if it's still possible to use the console or advanced shell to correct the assignments.

As you can see, the physical back Port 1 (front LED panel LAN port) is assigned hardware Port 2. The physical back Port 2 (front LED WAN port) is assigned hardware Port 3. Physical Port 4 is assigned hardware Port 1 and physical Port 3 is assigned hardware Port 4.

  • Hello setfire,

here is my solution for you. You can try it on your own risk. It works for me and my XG18.5 Home on XG130:

USE XG Home 18.5 (not v19). You have no Advanced Shell in v19.

    1. Connect to Advanced Shell (CLI 5 -> 3) via CONSOLE or SSH

    2. write down the MACs of your Interfaces Port1-Portn (using "ip a" oder "ifconfig")

    3. make "/" writeable with command "mount -o remount,rw /"

    4. open /etc/mdev.conf with "vi /etc/mdev.conf" and write in first Line " -SUBSYSTEM=net;DEVPATH=.*/net/.*;.*    0:0    644   @/sbin/nameif -s

    5. create /etc/mactab with "vi /etc/mactab" an write your Port1 ....Port9 with the correct MAC in it.

        etc.

        Port1 AB:CD:EF:00:11:22
        Port2 ........

    6. save file and reboot

    have fun !! :-D

sorry for my bad english ;-)

  • I suspect that the assignment changes you make will be lost when performing firmware  upgrades and secondly I think the advanced shell access  haas been restored in v19. I will find out later today when I build a couple of test XGs on A VM.
