Run Sophos Connect Client user independently / Lost connection list

Hi everyone,

in addition to this old question I would like to ask if it is possible to have the Sophos Connect Client run with no user logged in and keep an IPsec connection active.

I understand there is a service scvpn.exe which has to run in order for the Sophos Connect GUI to work, but i don't know how the client stores the imported connections and how they can run user independently.

Thank you for looking into this, regards, Wolfgang

NB: And here's a goodie if you lost your connections in the list: After terminating the Sophos Connect GUI you can restart the Sophos Connect Service (scvpn.exe). After that, your connections will be in the list of the GUI again.

  • Hi Emmanuel,

    thank you for your reply.

Explanation: a call center has to log into numerous Servers of customers to use their systems. Some of these customers have no proper firewalls, so no VPN-Site-to-Site connection can be established. We need a fixed connection point, though, in order to ensure that all call center agents (office, homeoffice SSL-Client and RED-connected) can use the server via RDP. So we set up the customer's server to connect via IPsec with the Sophos Connect Client.

Advantages: the connection has a fixed IP adress and starts up by itself.

Disadvantage: one specific user has to be logged in to make it possible.

That's why I am looking for a way to run the client without linking it to a user.

If you have better ideas for this scenario, I would be glad to hear.

    Regards, Wolfgang

  • Hello Wolfgand,

    Thank you for the follow-up.

I see, the Sophos Connect client needs to run with a user logged in, I haven't seen anyone configuring to run as you need.

The only thing I can think of is to use Hardware - RED device, but I guess you already went over that discussion with your clients.

Not sure if your Sales Engineer would have a better idea to assist you with this one.

    Regards,

  • OK, thanks for making that clear.

Well, buying, preparing, shipping and installing the RED device probably is too costly in these cases, but we will push that idea if the problems persist.

    Regards, Wolfgang
