XG135 - SFOS 18.5.2 MR2-Build380

We have an XG 135 and were prompted about this update a few weeks ago (we are currently on SFOS 18.5.1 MR-1-Build326). I have been putting it off due to the following two entries in the changelog:

  • NC-69456 [Firewall] Device goes into Failsafe Mode after Backup restore (Unable to apply Firewall Framework)
  • NC-62120 [Interface Management] Backup restore not possible

Can someone please elaborate on these issues? My concern has been if there were any issues with the new version that these issues would prevent us from rolling back.

I did some searching today and found the following post about the update: https://community.sophos.com/sophos-xg-firewall/f/discussions/131691/sfos-18-5-2-mr2-build380-pppoe-problems

This one seems to suggest that a rollback is possible but the connection issues that they describe are a worry. We are not using PPPoE and connect two WAN ports to separate routers with static IP addresses but nevertheless it puts me off updating.

When will the next update be available and will we be prompted about it or do we have to update to 18.5.1 MR-1-Build326 first?

  • Those issues are fixed in this version. So this means, if you do not have this issue, it is unlikely you will run into those issues.

The PPPoE Issue is currently tracked and will be fixed. If you have multiple PPPoE Interfaces, you need to update the Password.

  • Thanks for getting back to me. I don't know if we have this issue as we haven't had to do a rollback since before the device went into production and have updated the firmware at least once since then.

I don't think the PPPoE issue applies to us but it does still make me nervous given the rollback issue although it seems low risk. Is there an estimate for when the next release may be available?
