18.5 MR2 fails on my XG86w

Hello

Yesterday i installed 18.5 MR2 on my XG86w, after that I had no more a network connection to my applicance. I could not connect anymore by internet and LAN, and sophos central says my firewall is offline. So i had to connect by using putty and a serial connection. Connection was succesful, but when I press on the network settings, it says "Please try after some time. System is initializing ". But it did not after waiting 12 hours.

So now I had to reset to 18.5 MR1 by putty advanced console. I hope this sends my firewall back to life.

  • Additionally, after the update the appliance did also not blink blue anymore. Somehow it sent my XG in a failed state. It seems like the 18.5 MR2 is not compatible with my XG86w, the reboot was succesful and my firewall works again with 18.5 MR1.

  • Hi : Thank you for reaching out to the Sophos community team. Ideally, an upgrade to V18.5 MR2 is supported for XG 86/86w. Was the appliance able to give shell prompt properly in normal mode after upgrade to V18.5 MR2?  Also For system initializing, failing may have different causes which may require investigation with a support ticket.

Also please ensure that disk partitions are not near too full when you are trying to upgrade the appliance. (#df -kh) to avoid any such problem.

  • Thank you for your reply. Disk usage is low in my case.

I am sorry, what is meant by normal mode? I connected by using putty and serial connection, I could log into the appliance and access the console menu. Although the network status I could not retrieve, it stated it would be under initialization. I used reboot fw 1 to reboot back to the other firmware version. After reboot everything worked again as before.
