There are several posts on this subject (all locked for further commenting), so I thought I'd share a possible solution:
I have FTTP broadband at 100mbps and have been plagued with download/upload speeds of ~9mbps over the last 2-3 months.
Due to the Sophos XG not supporting a popular Intel NIC driver (I219-LM), I run my XG on VMWare's ESXi 7.0 Hypervisor. After spending many hours looking at reports and settings on the XG with nothing show excessive bandwidth consumption, I turned my attention to ESX. The WAN link was showing a link speed of 10Mbps!
After rebooting the hypervisor the link returned to 1000mbps and my download speeds returned to the expected 100 up / 20 down.
I am not sure what caused the link to downgrade, but in my troubleshooting steps, I also did the following:
- Whilst the XG was down, I applied the latest ESXi patches.
- Researched the MTU value from my ISP and made sure the XG's WAN connection and the vSwitch values matched.
I hope someone may find this of use.
