I am very disappointed in the error reporting functionality of the XG v18 firewall. Actually, the error reporting just isn't useful at all. Today I have a bounced message due to certificate issue on the recipient end. But the only way I know that is a hover box that comes up in the mail logs, not a useful entry I can print out and provide as evidence of an issue. No, I am NOT going to go hacking in the box with Putty and SSH. If you have the capability to display the relevant error message in the mail log via a hover box, you have the ability to display it in a form that can be captured or printed. And no, the bounce does not appear in the log viewer / email screens. Totally missing from those logs. I can see the message go into scanning or whatever, then nothing.
Can you just please get some useful logging exposed via the web interface? Is this some sort of religious issue, like apple vs. pc? I've noticed I'm not the only one who has asked about this, and I have also noticed the requests go back for years so there must be a reason you choose to not provide better logging. Why not just own up to the fact you never intend to deliver better logging options, or just say up front before we buy your product you don't provide those services and never intend to. On this point alone, the answer is NO when someone asks me about a recommendation for Sophos. If you want a different answer to that question then you need to do something different.
