how to add dns to sophos xgs firewall

hi all,

on the sophos xgs firewall on the diagnostics i can ping 8.8.8.8 but i cant ping google.co.uk

under "network > dns" i have added a few dns ips in there but when i go back to diagnostics ping, i type in google.co.uk, ipv4, select my wan interface and it cant ping or resolve the name

Hi,

you should have the DNS on the Network -> DNS page. What are you using for your LAN devices, the internal XG interface address they talk to to?

ok tried changing the dns to my ISPs one instead of using googles dns but still the same result, i cant resolve hostnames, maybe it needs an internal dns on the LAN?

Hi,

that was what I asked, what are you usng for your internal DNS?

I use the interface IP address as the DNS, but as you can see from the screenshoot you can change that.

Where is that page from Ian, as its not under network > dns

Network -> DHCP when you open your DHCP server settings.

If you choose to use the devices dns, you will need to add a rule to allow lan devices access to port 53 .
