Sophos XG Home with Fiber (1000D/1000U) - will it be a bottleneck?

Hey All -

Currently we're using Untangle's Home product for $50/yr but it flat out ain't cutting it. Application detection is terrible and apparently Sophos does a much better job. Which leads me to two key questions:

  1. With a Fiber 1000/1000 connection, will Sophos XG Home's limitations be able to handle that speed/load? I know there isn't an IP limit, it's a memory and CPU core limit - so I wonder if that will cause an issue or not with about 30-40 devices at any given time (ipads, laptops, smart devices, etc)

  2.  10.0.0.0.1 What's the learning curve like? Using Untangle I was able to figure things out in a day or two an 192.168.1.254 d perform more complex setups in about a week with no major issues. I haven't heard of this product but several forums seem to recommend Sophos above Untangle so I'm curious to try it out. With everyone working and learning from home I don't have the luxury of bumbling my way thru the setup without causing tension in the home.

Thanks!

  • 1) Depends on what processor you're going to use with XG, and what features you will enable. (What processor you will be using? Are you going to do TLS Decryption?)

    2) The learning curve isn't high, take a look at the docs first before using it at home; But you should figure out almost everything in a day or two.
