Sophos XG310 firewalls stuck in boot process

Hello Sophos Community,

last year our new customer installed 2 x Sophos XG310 firewalls in HA cluster to the latest firmware (which they didnt remember).

Now, firewalls could not be accessed to WEB GUI so they applied reboot but firewalls got stuck in reboot process.

Front LCD shows Sophos Protection screen (which means that appliance is booting).

after connecting monitor to the appliance, we notice a tons of erros and boot process stops like in pictures below:

anybody had a similar experience or maybe knows how to bypass this error? do you know if we input root password will the boot go on successfully and if so, do you know which boot password should we input? is that admin password which was set up during the installation?

thanks,

Kemo

  • BTW: How long did you not reboot /update the firewalls? Because linux is very good in "working" still on faulty hardware but rebooting as a process most likely kills the hardware. Notice this by rebooting two ESXi Server recently. Both died and could not come up anymore.

So it could be an issue for a long time and with the reboot event, the appliances struggled to get up.
