XG 310 stops accepting VPN connections and L2TPD service stops

Our XG 310 appears to be exhibiting some strange behaviour. At around 50 VPN connections, it stops accepting new connections, even though max-live-users is set to 12228. And from time to time the L2TPD service actually stops and the only remedy is to reboot the appliance. This can happen 2 - 3 times during the day.

Is this a known issue with any solution?

  • Hello there,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

I am not aware of a known issue for this.

If this is something that can be replicated in your environment please open a case and share it with me so I can follow up.

    Make sure you’re running 18.0 MR6 or 18.5.1

Are the 50 VPN connections IPSec, SSL VP, L2TPD or only one in specific?

Is there anything under /var/cores for any service related to the VPNs?

    Regards,

  • Hi Emmanuel,

    Case 04412331

We are running the latest SFOS 18.5.1 MR-1-Build326.

All VPN connections are L2TPD, and the number of connections is not a specific one, so may not be the issue - we have had as many as 80+ with no issue, but intermittently the connections start failing.

  • Hello there,

Thank you for the Case ID.

It looks you have a session today and it seems at some point after a number of L2TPD connections the service STOPs causing new connections not to be able to connect.

It seems like a change in the L2TP policy, might have fixed the issue, but you will be monitoring after today's session.

Sorry I wasn’t able to update you earlier but I was OOO yesterday.

    Regards,
