Is it an zone or an interface?

Disclosure: I am coming from a UTM, the user interface on the XG make no sense to me.

I created a VLAN on my 10G port for VLAN 50 named DMZ and assigned it to the DMZ zone. When I went to start testing connectivity using the diagnostics ping test I had to select the DMZ interface in order for it to work, now the true 10G interface the traffic is flowing over. Is the ping test screen mislabeled and I should think of this as zones?

One of the big differences I see between the UTM and the XG is there is little to no reference info available on the networks, names, zones, interfaces, etc. On the UTM a bubble always pops up telling me what the item is, what it is connected to, etc. Make it pretty easy to keep track of what you are doing. In the XG, there is no way to put a useful name or comment on anything. I'm left to stumble around and hope I find what I am looking for? I guess I will have to transition to an elaborate naming scheme that avoids any possible duplication across functions so I know whether I am selecting an internal or external address/host or similar situation. How do you keep all this straight?
