Unable to restore backup - firmware: SFOS 17.5.16 MR-16-Build830

I have another Sophos XG appliance sitting on the shelf for almost a year as a backup.

I work on it today to do an update and restore. I did a factory reset via console.

Then, the system downloaded the latest firmware. However, I am unable to restore the backup, this error keeps on coming up.

The IPS version is exactly the same as the current appliance. The only thing that missing the word 'Success'. I have clicked on update pattern now and nothing happens.

I have tried it again on another factory default and still the same error message.

Please advise if this is a known bug.

Thank you,

Ron

  • it has Internet access, hence it was able to update (AP firmware, Red firmware, Sophos AV and SSL VPN clients). The rest doesn't need updating - it is the latest version as the production appliance.

  • Try to skip the wizard and restore the backup in webadmin.

  • Looks like configuration partition got corrupted or might be hardware issue.

Please do factory reset of the firewall from Console or Reimage the appliance and check again.

  • I have done the firewall reset from console and the skip wizard - as seen on my 3rd screenshot.

I think the firmware is corrupted - because if I load the previous firmware, the system boots fine. I don't see an option to delete firmware.

I will try to re-image the appliance.

    Thanks all.
