  • Hi John,

the internal AP is not supported in the software version. Do you have a hardware licence?

  • Hi Ian,

this is bad and not what i expected. Unfortenately i have no hardware license only the home one. I liked the idea to have the FW with wlan integrated this is why i choose the model and this is what i noticed. when installing HW Image, it is there as internalwlan0 and when installing the SW Image it is missing :(
Do you know if this is a SW Limitation or maybe just the drivers are missing and i have to add it in the SW Image?

    thanks,

    John

  • Hi John,

I don't know the answer to that question, though it has been asked before. There is a further limitation, you can only have one wireless active eg either 2.4 or 5 but not both.

  • Hi Ian,

it would be ok for me but there is no wlan device at all there. I read about it but this apply for the UTM Version. I would like to go with the XG one. I manage to install it on the HW device. So this would also include that if you have your own hardware, like i know because i remove the branding from the HW device to be able to install the SW Version because Home License can't be installed on HW devices and there is no trick like on the UTM Version.

So it looks like my only chance is to switch to old UTM and maybe wifi will work with the limitation or run XG without wlan.

It is now a little bit disappointed that there a such of limitations which are not so clear written.

    thanks,

    John

  • Alternative is buy an APX120 or some other non sophos AP.

  • Disappointed, i have a AP15 on my old UTM but my hope was that i dont need it anymore because it has wifi built in. Now i have a device with wlan which can't be use and need an external wifi box. So the plan to save energy, will not work Disappointed

    thanks,

    John

  • Hi John,

the APs don't use much anergy. If you use an external AP you get to optimise its placement and you can use both channels if it is a current Sophos AP.

  • neverless it is a waste of energy...but ok i will see what i can do. maybe it is time to look aroud what others do...every friendship goes to the end one time

  • Hi,

you are probably going to use more energy with the older style inbuilt AP, we are talking about 5 or 6 watts, not a very large quantity, your PC uses more than that when you let it go to sleep or you walk away from it for a while.
