Email not working from apple IOS mail

Hi all,

I got an XG125 Sophos firewall version SFOS 18.0.5 MR-5-Build586.

Some of the users use the built-in mail service in the iPhones.

When the users are connected to the LAN-WiFi which is linked to our network, they cannot send emails from their phones.

Has someone have this issue before???

Regards,

Johana Romero

  • Hi Johana,

do you have mail scanning in the XG enabled? If so, have you installed the CA on the iPhones? Check that you have the correct ports enabled on the firewall rule eg 25, 465 and 587?

  • Hi  rfcat_vk,

I am working with the "Auto added firewall policy for MTA". Please find below screenshot of the rule.

I do have scan email for SMTP and SMTPS but i have not install the CA in any phone.

I have read other post where the CA did not fix the issue and I have not try because it is not very easy to get access to the users' phones.

If I want to scan the mail  content, do I necessarily need to install the CA in the phone? If I turn off all the Scans, should it work then?

    Thank you,

    Johana Romero

  • Hi Johana,

you could try emailing the CA with  instructions to the users on how to install it. Turning off scanning will allow the mail to work.

Is the issue with a particular port  eg 587 or sending mail general? Do the users receive ail via smtp/s or Imap?

You could create a clienteles group and put them in a seperate firewall rule so the other users devices are still be scannedmdepending on how you authenticate the iPhones.

  • Hi  rfcat_vk,

If I install the CA in the phones, do they need to delete and add again their Imap accounts?

The error is sending mail in general, their accounts are Imap.

I will try installing the CA for one user, if it works I will create the group to isolate the iPhone users, from the rest, with its independent firewall rule.

  • Hi Johana,

you are not scanning iMaps according to your firewall rule you are only scanning smtp/s which is what the error is. I have two iPhones at home and have installed the CA which works on SMTP/s without ant issues this version of IoS but have trouble with SMTPS and have had to switch to smtp. One ISP fails sending even time and needs to be 'continued' so I don't send mail through that ISP. When the phones are outside my home network I can change the setup to use SMTPS, strange.
