Dealing with zones (examples please)

Hello,

I still don't understand how zones work.
Unfortunately, I can't understand how and what the meaning behind it is.

At first glance, it looks to me that the zone is actually nothing other than how one would define various services in advance.

Can someone please show and explain two examples. Especially with regard to the interfaces, as a user has said, only one interface can be located in only one zone.

Thanks in advance

greeting

  • Zones are from a firewall perspective. Its about handling. Look at an interface, you can select a zone. The firewall will help you to decide, which traffic is allowed from this zone.

take the example: LAN to WAN. It will allow all traffic from the LAN zone (all interface in zone LAN) to the WAN Zone (all interface with a default gateway).
