Sophos SSL VPN Authenication Oddity

I have noticed that when a user connects over the SSL VPN its a bit slow authenticating and looking through the logs i can see every time a users authenicates it does so using the username only fails and then a couple of seconds later it then tries with username@domainname.local and is successful.

Logs i see are:

SSL VPN Authentication
Failed
username
IPaddress
N/A
AD,AD
User username failed to login to SSLVPN through AD,AD authentication mechanism because of wrong credentials

SSL VPN Authentication
Successful
username@domainname.local
ipaddress
N/A
AD
User username@domainname.local authenticated successfully to login to SSLVPN through AD authentication mechanism

  • Resolved following work with XG professional services identifying that although cbank.local is our local domain the users default UPN suffix is different so the full qualfied domain name under STAS needed changing to this. Thought this might a more common issue as its a method lots use to get the correct UPN syncing to office 365.
