Sophos Xg in Combination with Exchange Online / O365

Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask, if someone has experience with Sophos XG in combination with Exchange Online.

We have a customer, which has on prem Exchange and Sophos XG Version 18 in MTA Mode. At the omoment it is a hybrid solution with Exchange Online, but the goal is to change everything to Exchange Online, with Sophos XG as the Filter, respectively the medium for in and outgoing mails.

I saw this link:

https://docs.sophos.com/nsg/sophos-firewall/18.0/Help/en-us/webhelp/onlinehelp/nsg/sfos/learningContent/EmailConfigureEmailProtectionMTA.html

It seems for me that this is a link, which is just used for a general setup, which we have right now for the on prem solution.

Do you maybe have a hint or two, a KB or instructions.

I ask this, as we don't get a static host for exchange Online and it has a huge IP Range behind it.

Thanks and Br

Stefan

  • UTM and Sophos Firewall XG does not support Exchange Online.

The fact, that this will open a security issue, leads to Central Email as viable solution.

As you cannot declare your own email domain and have to use Hostbased Relays (Everything from one domain), this will potentially causes issues.

Hence move to Central Email for Central solution.

BTW: The fact of using a on prem solution like Sophos Firewall for Email plus a cloud solution does not make a lot of sense: You want to have the benefits of a cloud solution and should use a cloud based email protection solution.
