Sophos Connect client and autoconnect

Hi. I do have a case with Sophos but the response time is not great so I am postin here too.

Hopefully it's a simple remedy too.

We've configured Sophos Connect. The XG210 is SFOS 18.0.4 MR-4

It works manually but doesn't autoconnect.

We allow caching of credentials

A domain suffix to monitor has been entered.

When disconnected (or rebooted) the client does not autoconnect - the client does autostart when the laptops are logged into.

Does autoconnect only work under certain circumstances?

Does a laptop (for example) have to be a domain member for autoconnect to work with the Sophos Connect client or can it be a workgroup one (as per many at home devices currently)?

Many thanks! Andy

    Hi ,

Thank you for reaching out to Sophos Community.

Please ensure that you've added an internal hostname/IP address for "Auto-connect" and it should be reachable when you connect Sophos Connect.

  • Thank you for responding. I'm unsure from your reply where exactly this internal hostname/ipaddress is supposed to be entered.

    Hi ,

Go to VPN > IPsec(Remote access) Advanced Settings > Connect tunnel automatically > Enter the hostname or DNS suffix to monitor.

    Reference document: IPsec (remote access)

When users sign in to their endpoint devices and can't connect to the entered hostname, the connect client will start the connection.

NoteIf you update any of the advanced settings, for the changes to take effect, you must share the configuration file again with the users. However, if users have imported the provisioning file, this file automatically updates the Sophos Connect clients on users' endpoints with the changes you make to the settings.

    Thanks,

  • Thank you for your reply. I have now tried both a "domain.local" suffix and a business LAN DNS server address in the appropriate box but the autoconnect still doesn't run. The below is a sanitised screen shot of the XG. I did export the settings and create a new connection into the client machine. The connection is fine manually. Everything works. But if the laptop is restarted and logged into the autoconnect doesn't happen. Internet access is available, I can browse and use Teams and email. I waited 5 minutes just to be sure but still no connection until I initiate it.
