Installing SFOS - Using Separate Drive for Report Partition

Hi All,

A friend and colleague asked me an interesting question today. When installing SFOS / Sophos XG Home on a PC, is it possible to install - for example - the main boot/OS on an SSD and use a separate drive entirely as a reports/temp "partition"? I haven't had the need or inclination to do this, it must theoretically be possible as the VM version of SFOS has two separate virtual disks, though I know the bulk of the installation in the case of the VM version of SFOS is on the secondary virtual disk, with the primary being more of a boot loader.

Has anyone had the inclination to try and install SFOS using a separate drive for the reports/temp partition? As I say, I have never had the need, the firewalls I look after are all either hardware appliance or VM.

Thanks in advance for anyone with insight.

Hi Darrian, Thanks for reaching out to Sophos Community.

As far as I know, the installation process is pretty much hardcoded. Once you start the installation through an ISO (in a VM) it'll do the partition automatically and install the SFOS. Usually, Linux distros allow these kinds of options of installing diff partition on diff disks.

If you're specifically concerned with VMs, I can follow up with the internal team. Let me know.
