XGS Licensing

Hi

I have been using different UTM devices for 10+ years now and we are thinking about upgrading to the XGS but I have found out the licensing is strange

could I have someone from Sophos explain why spam email scanning is no longer a basic license and now requires an option license on top of an existing license?

  • It is a response to the market and the current situation going forward.

Many customers moving to cloud based solutions and do not need the on premise email protection / web server protection, as they move to Office365 and other vendors. As the bundle got new features, Sophos excluded other features from the bundle and make them as a additional item. You can purchase them, if you want, or look into other ways to solve your setup, for example Central Email or ZTNA for WAF.

You should talk to your local Sales Rep, if you need to renewal your current license or you want to migrate to the new platform, as they can clearly explain to your the best setup.

  • The re-bundling works well for our use case. It includes pretty much everything in XStream Protection that all use cases can use. If you have control over your domain and have internal (but external-facing) email servers, you add the Email support. Similarly, if you control your own domain and have internal (but external-facing) web servers, you add the Web Server support. If you want a higher grade of support, add the Enhanced Plus support. Our use case doesn't need enhanced support and we don't control our domain, so the XStream Protection Bundle covers all the bases.
